News of the Day - 6-5-2019

I have been away for awhile.

This New Robot Will Take Millions Of Warehouse Jobs

The automation wave is expected to dramatically reshape the US economy in the 2020s. This disruption will impact the labor force and cause tremendous job losses. By 2030, automation could eliminate 20% to 25% of current jobs -- equivalent to 40 million displaced workers, hitting the bottom 90% of Americans the hardest.

A new report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) shows how warehouse automation is starting to gain traction in Atlanta, the sixth largest warehousing space in the US.

The new, robot-powered warehouse in McDonough, Georgia, is currently undergoing pilot tests and will begin operations in June. Project Verte, a start-up trying to compete with Amazon, is responsible for automating the warehouse.

My Take: Since we are over populated, given that automation will take 40 million jobs, it seems to me now is not the time to add 22 million illegal aliens plus their relatives to our population. From 1998 to 2011 we added 40 million people but the total number of hours worked remained constant at 196 billion.

Might I point out that the population of Mexico in 1950 was 28 million. Today there are 34 million Mexican Americans and 132 million people in Mexico. Solving the over population problems of Latin America, Africa, the Mideast and Asia is way beyond our ability.

Newly Released Amazon Patent Shows Just How Much Creepier Alexa Can Get

A newly revealed patent application filed by Amazon is raising privacy concerns over an envisaged upgrade to the company's smart speaker systems. This change would mean that, by default, the devices end up listening to and recording everything you say in their presence.

I assume you know that Jeff Bezos of Amazon has won the contract to provide cloud data storage for all 17 US intelligence agencies from the CIA and NSA to the DIA and the DNI. He is bidding to get the same contract for the DOD. What could go wrong?
